Explore Galtee Mountain

Embrace the history...

As you enjoy your yoga walk on trails near the stunning Galtee Mountains, you’re not just surrounded by natural beauty—you’re immersed in centuries of Irish history.

The area, including the lush Galtee Castle Woods and the wider mountain range, tells the story of powerful dynasties and resilient communities. The land was once governed by the influential Kingston and Buckley families, whose vast estates shaped the landscape and its people. You’ll discover tangible links to a past filled with both beauty and hardship, including remnants of famine villages, old Booley houses, and the dramatic Famine Wall that extends across the Galtees.

Listen closely, and you’ll hear the echoes of the old place names and families, such as the Cunninghams, who have lived here for generations. It is from these very slopes that the ancestors of former US President Ronald Reagan hailed, proving the deep and far-reaching legacy of the Galtee Mountains.

Attycraan River

One of the Most Protected Waterways in Ireland.

As you walk along the Attycraan River, a pristine Blue Dot River, you’ll experience the pure, clean energy of one of the most protected waterways in Ireland. The area’s red sandstone hills offer a striking contrast to the lush greenery, making this a truly unique place to connect with nature. The Galtee Mountains themselves are steeped in ancient healing rituals, with the land holding stories of connection to the divine and to the earth.

The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, with panoramic views that stretch all the way to the Knockmealdown Mountains, Ballyhoura Mountains, and even as far as the Comeragh Mountains on a clear day. Along the way, you’ll encounter unique trees and a variety of fauna and flora, offering an opportunity to reflect and connect with the natural world around you. Storytelling is an integral part of the experience, as I share the tales of the people, places, and healing practices tied to these lands. Each walk invites you to not just explore but to truly feel the energy of this magical place, awakening a deeper sense of connection, peace, and healing.
